Primary retreat resources

Here are resources that could be used for a classroom spirituality space or school retreat day.

Glitter Prayers

Fill either large old plastic sweet jars, drinks bottles or small plastic juice bottles with water. Pour in glitter and then seal. (You may need to add some PVA glue or plumbers tape to ensure that the seal is water tight)

Children’s Rosary

You can either make 10 bead bracelets that can be reused or have a selection of cotton reels, buttons etc that can be threaded as the child prays.

Children could also make beads from rolled paper that has been ‘varnished’ with craft glue.

Assembly: What is Prayer?

An assembly that introduces the concept of prayer.

The Lord’s Prayer

Diocese of Monmouth: Pause for Prayer

Daily Office for Schools

Two short simple acts of Morning and Afternoon Prayer. The prayer intention poster could be enlarged and placed in a classroom to enable children to leave prayer requests if they wish (e.g. for a war torn country they’ve seen on the news, a poorly pet, a music exam etc.). It could also be used for weekly prayer intentions such as different year groups, community groups, sports teams, staff members etc.

There are also two videos to accompany these cards.

Examen for young children

A resource to compliment the Daily Office to facilitate meditation and reflection.
