A christening or baptism is the first step on an amazing journey with God, parents, godparents, friends, family and the church. A lifetime of discovering more about love, faith and hope begins – a wonderful moment to celebrate.
A Christening is…
- The first step in the beginning of a journey with God which continues for the rest of our lives.
- A joyful moment for all involved, particularly the candidates but also parents, godparents and sponsors, when we rejoice in what God has done for us in Christ, making serious promises and declaring the Christian faith.
- A chance for the local church and friends to welcome a new Christian, promising support and prayer for the future.
CHOOSING GODPARENTS
In the service, the godparents make promises to share the amazing story of the Christian faith, to pray for your child and to show them ways to grow in faith and love. Because of the very special role they have in supporting your child’s faith journey, godparents must have been baptised (christened) themselves.
AFTER THE SERVICE
When your child is christened, they become a part of our church family, and you are warmly invited to come to church whenever you can. You are also welcome to take part in any of our other groups and events.
We will try to keep in touch with you and invite you occasionally to join us, for instance at Christmas, Easter and All-Age services. Whether we see you regularly or lose touch over time, we will always be here if you need us.
