Music Festival

We’re delighted to share the programme for our very first Ministry Area Music Festival, taking place from 14th to 21st July. This will be a special week of services, concerts and performances hosted across our churches.

There is no requirement for advance booking, and no entry fee for any of the services or events. Just bring yourself, your friends and family to join us!

Sunday 14th July: 4:00pm Festival Choral Evensong (St Augustine’s)
A special service of Choral Evensong, sung by the choir of St Augustine’s, Rumney. 
Guest Preacher: The Revd Canon Ian Yemm (Canon Precentor Llandaff Cathedral).
Followed by a celebratory glass of fizz & other refreshments!

Monday 15th July: 7:00pm Taizé Service (St Dyfrig’s)
A service of song and silence in the tradition of the Taizé Community, with an opportunity to learn some of the music of Taize, with The Revd Marja Flipse & The Revd Canon Jan Gould (The Church of The Resurrection, Ely).
Followed by refreshments.

Tuesday 16th July: 7:30pm An Evening of Music, with Cheese and Wine (St Edeyrn’s)
A relaxed evening of music with Midnight Martini performing a selection of vintage and swing style music from the 1920s to the 1960s and Matthew Woodford playing a selection of piano pieces by Chopin, Debussy, Ginastera and Satie.
This event is FREE to attend, with a retiring collection (suggested donation of £5.00).
Cheese and biscuits will be available for free. There will also be a licensed bar (non-alcoholic drinks will be available). Cash and card payment accepted.

Wednesday 17th July: 6:30pm Student Showcase & Chorister Concert (St Augustine’s)
An informal concert showcasing young musical talent from across East Cardiff and beyond, along with the choristers of St Augustine’s Church Choir. Featuring music by Mozart, Grieg, Mendelssohn, J S Bach, Elgar, Lin Marsh, Martha Mier, and many more!
This event is FREE to attend, with a retiring collection (suggested donation of £5.00). Cash and card payment accepted. Refreshments will be available after the concert.

Thursday 18th July: 7:30pm Choral Concert with Chantry Voices (St Mellons)
An evening of choral music, including Merry Madrigals, Sacred Song and newly written music, composed for the Chantry Voices choir. 
This event is FREE to attend, with a retiring collection (suggested donation of £5.00). Cash and card payment accepted. Refreshments will be available.

Saturday 20th July: 2:00pm Organ Recital: Nathan Bird (St Augustine’s) 
An organ recital played by Nathan Bird, Director of Music at St Augustine’s.
Featuring organ works by Dieterich Buxtehude, Johann Kuhnau, Claude Debussy, Flor Peeters and Johann Sebastian Bach.
This event is FREE to attend, with a retiring collection (suggested donation of £5.00). 
Cash and card payment accepted. Refreshments will be available after the recital.

Sunday 21st July: 4:00pm Summer Celebration Songs of Praise (All Saint’s Cyncoed)
A celebration of favourite hymns, as voted for by the congregations of East Cardiff Ministry Area, with Mtr Tina Parry and Nathan Bird (Organist). 
This event will be followed by a free buffet. There will also be a licensed bar (non-alcoholic drinks will be available). Cash and card payment accepted.
