We’re delighted to introduce you to a new member of our Ministry Team – Ruth Young, our new Schools Engagement Pioneer. As part of funding received from the Church in Wales Growth Fund, the Diocese has placed Ruth with us to develop our mission and ministry to schools in East Cardiff, particularly our church schools.
Ruth spent her childhood in Cardiff, not far from the Ministry Area! Roath park is one of her favourite places, although she now spends much more time in the playground watching her daughter explore. Since leaving Cardiff to go to University she has worked across the United Kingdom – in England, Scotland (and Northern Ireland for almost 2 weeks!)
Ruth has had a varied work life – from museums, zoos, schools, libraries, churches and community work. Before moving back to Wales Ruth had been living and working in Birmingham for over 8 years, working for the Diocese and local churches as well as being part of a faith based charity that worked with young people, children and families in a deprived area of Birmingham, Most recently she worked for the Diocese of Llandaff as their Children and Families Outreach Enabler.
She’s always been interested in children’s spirituality and how we can create places where that can grow and flourish. She loves people and building connections and relationships and is very much looking forward to getting to know our local schools and the wider community and developing new ministries.
Ruth will be ‘touring’ our different churches on Sundays over the coming weeks in order to get to know everyone, so please do give her a warm welcome when you meet her. You can contact Ruth using the contact details on our team pages.
