Each year during the Season of Lent, we are encouraged to make space in our lives to grow in our faith through prayer and study, and give towards those less fortunate than ourselves.
Here’s a guide to this year’s Lent programme. Please do prayerfully consider how you might make the most of this Lenten season. We’d love to encourage you to take one or more of these opportunities to be renewed in your faith, and re-focused on the things in life that matter most.
Ash Wednesday Services
Begin your Lenten observance by joining us for our Ash Wednesday services, including the imposition of ashes, on Wednesday 5th March:
- 10.00am Said Eucharist – All Saints’ Cyncoed
- 10.00am Said Eucharist – St Dyfrig’s Llanrumney
- 10.00am Said Eucharist – St Mellons
- 7.00pm Choral Mass – St Augustine’s Rumney
Lent Course:
Introduction to Christian Meditation
This year, Fr Colin Sutton will lead our Lent Course, offering a gentle introduction to Christian meditation. The sessions will explore different ways to open ourselves to Christ’s presence—through Scripture, music, art, and engaging our senses. Rather than focusing on self-improvement, this course emphasizes Christ-centeredness found in prayer and reflection.
Meetings will take place every Tuesday during Lent at St Dyfrig’s Church Hall. Coffee and tea will be available from 7:15pm, with the sessions starting promptly at 7:30pm and always ending by 8:30pm. Beginning on Tuesday 24th February.
Theology Thursday
From Pancakes to Palm Crosses
Our Theology Thursday during Lent will provide a one off opportunity to reflect on the story of Christ’s passion, and what it means for us and our faith today, using video from this year’s Church in Wales Lent Course filmed in Newport Cathedral. All are welcome to join us.
- Thursday 5th March
- 7.00pm – 8.30pm
- St Teilo’s Church in Wales High School
Lent Appeal
This year’s Lent Appeal will contribute to the diocesan fund dedicated to supporting social action projects in the Diocese of Monmouth across South East Wales. Your generosity will enable local churches, including your own, to offer practical help, hope, and dignity to those who need it most. Every gift, large or small, becomes part of a shared commitment to build communities shaped by compassion, justice, and love.
You can support our Lent Appeal by:
- Placing a cash donation into an envelope clearly marked ‘Lent Appeal’, and putting it on the collection plate at your local church.
- Taking part in one of our Lent lunches and other fundraising activities.
- Clicking here to donate online by card/direct debit.
St Dyfrig’s Lent Lunches
St Dyfrig’s Llanrumney will be hosting a series of five Lent lunches, which will raise money towards the Diocesan Lent Appeal. These will be on Wednesdays from 1.00pm in the Church Hall, beginning from Wednesday 25th February.
